JAN 2015 STONE OF THE MONTH CHROME CHALCEDONY, a rare silicified rock
Chrome chalcedony our Jan 2015 Stone of the Month occurs in a number of places in Western Australia and throughout the world. First discovered in Zimbabwe. The pieces displayed here came from near the town of Newman which is approximately 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.
Our Jan 2015 Stone of the Month Chrome Chalcedony is selected because of it rarity. Because this is a silicified cap rock (required oxygen in the creation) and only found on the surface it’s now extremely rare. The chalcedony is a beautiful emerald green with inclusions. The matrix also takes on the chrome chalcedony color. I’ve been told that this material can also be faceted if the chalcedony is clear enough. This stone is also called mtorolite or mtorodite.
