Origin: Mimbres Valley, Deming, New Mexico

Characteristics: It's makeup is how it gets its name, the plumes look like sage brush against a sweeping lavender sky.  This is actually a Rhyolite which is of volcanic origin. No open fractures, some pits on front and back, shows up in pictures, most on the top edge.  Slab is unfinished, smooth on both sides.  First 2 pictures taken wet to show the colors.

Apache Sage is also known as Mimbres Valley Picture Rhyolite. It comes from a small deposit in the Mimbres Valley, northeast of Deming, New Mexico.  The last I heard there is no mining allowed on private property.

Approx size: 46 x 53 x 5.5mm.  Weight: 32.5g.

I use a 24 mm coin and 10 mm squares in my pictures to help with image sizing.
