This free formed cabochon was cut from material found in Russia .Charoite, pronounced CHAR-oh-ite, is a rare mineral, first described in 1978 and named for the Chara River. It has been reported only from the Sakha Republic, Yakutia, Siberia, Russia

Charoite is translucent lavender to purple in color with a pearly lustre. Though reportedly discovered in the 1940s, it was not known to the outside world until its description in 1978. This material is no longer being mined so expect it to be hard to find or more expensive in the future.

First 2 pictures taken wet to bring out colors you may see after polishing. Remaining pictures taken dry to show imperfections if any.  If it's transparent one picture is taken with backlighting.

I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K.  It is a daylight balanced pure white light.

Unless noted all my rough slabs are preformed and the front and backs sanded with 320 diamond grit.

An 18mm US dime or 24mm US quarter and 10 mm squares in my pictures should help with image sizing.
