Tiffany Stone, aka Bertrandite, Opal Fluorite rough slab
Characteristics: Red, black, white, yellow. preshapped for cabochon or specimen. Opalized. Unique and rare pattern. Unfinished natural slab, smoothed with 320 grit, no pits or open fractures. Several naturally sealed fracture lines that fit right in with the beauty of the slabs colors. Hardness 7.
A major ore of Bertrandite is beryllium, and the major deposits of beryllium in the United States are in the Spor Mountains of Utah. Brush Wellman, Inc. bought the mineral rights to these deposits and began mining in the 1960's. Until recently this material was not available to the general public because the value of beryllium was high. For some reason it became more abundant in Arizona the last several years. Two types of this material exist, one is the opal fluorite type(tiffany stone) along with an agatized material.
Tiffany stone is a rock composed primarily of fluorite with smaller amounts of opal, calcite, dolomite, quartz, chalcedony, bertrandite and other materials. Other names used for Tiffany stone are "opalized fluorite," "ice cream stone," and "Bertrandite."

Preformed slabs: I try and remove all or most of the pits and open fractures to give you a more acceptable slab. I also try my best to smooth out all the edges and the front and back.
Finishing purchased slabs: My recommendations are for you to start with 320 diamond grit and finish with 600 grit before polishing. I have created several posts that show how I create cabs, see my website blog on Designsbyshirl.
My pictures: I use a full spectrum 45 w light bulb - photography photo CFL 5500K. It's a daylight balanced pure white light.
My first 2 pictures (front and back) show items wet, this brings out the colors you should see in a finished product. Other pictures show items dry, this should show imperfections (small cracks or pits) if there are any. Contact us if you have any questions. Translucent items will have at least one picture taken with a backlight.
An 18 mm dime or 24mm quarter and 10 mm background squares in some pictures should help you with image sizing.
