Yellow Opal rough chunks from Napa Co., rare fluorescent stone (rc112881)
Napa Co. Calif. Flourscent Yellow Opal
Origin:Manhattan Gold Mine, Napa Co. Calif.
Colors: Translucent Yellow
Characteristics: Napa county Yellow Opal, also know as Lemon Opal
Uncovered by a bulldozer at the Manhattan gold mine in Napa County, Calif. many years ago. Local collectors were called in and by the next day it was all taken. Now extremely rare and seldom seen for sale. This was the same mine Myrichite was found at.
The Manhattan mine, also known as the McLaughlin mine, is located on a hot spring type deposit that produced lead, gold, silver and mercury, beginning in the 1860s. This site is no longer available for collecting.
This material fluoresces to a brighter yellow, these small rough chunks and half way completed cabs are my last of this material I have. I was planning to make cabs with this material but I need to retire so all my rough is now for sale.
Most of this material will make nice cabochons for pendants and the smaller ones would make great looking rings, the rest would look great in your display, especially if you don't have any, see my pictures showing the opal under a short wave light.
Approx size: I use a background in some of my pictures that are 10 mm squares to help with image sizing. Weight: 192 ct, my price may seem high but this material is extremely light so your getting a lot for your money.
